Concrete Patios

Your Backyard Is Just Sitting There Being Useless

And You Know It

Come on. When's the last time you actually hung out in your backyard? And I don't mean walked through it to get to your car or stood there watering plants for five minutes.

You've got this space behind your house that you're basically ignoring. Meanwhile, you're fighting for a table at some overpriced restaurant just to sit outside and eat. It's ridiculous.

The problem is simple - you don't have anywhere comfortable to actually sit and do anything back there. Fix that, and suddenly you've got your own personal outdoor room that you don't have to share with strangers.

Why Most Patios Are Terrible

Here's what usually happens. Somebody decides they need a patio. They call a contractor who shows up, pours a slab of concrete in roughly the shape of a rectangle, and calls it a day. Six months later, you've got a very expensive place to stack patio furniture that you never actually use.

We see this crap all the time. Patios that are too small, in the wrong spot, or built so poorly they're cracking before the first year is up. The homeowner spent good money and ended up with something that doesn't improve their life at all.

A real patio - one you'll actually use - takes some thought. Where do you put it? How big does it need to be? What's it going to look like? How do you keep it from falling apart?

Most contractors don't want to deal with these questions because it's easier to just pour concrete and move on to the next job.

Concrete That Doesn't Look Like…Well You Know

Stamped Concrete - We take big rubber mats with patterns on them and stamp them into wet concrete. Sounds weird, works great. You end up with concrete that looks like stone, brick, wood - whatever pattern you picked.

The popular ones around here? Ashlar slate looks like expensive stone tiles. Cobblestone gives you that old European village thing. Wood plank looks like decking but won't rot or need staining every year.

Colored Concrete - Plain gray concrete is boring. We can make it pretty much any color you want. Some colors get mixed in, others get applied as stains that create these cool natural-looking variations.

Exposed Aggregate - We pour concrete with decorative stones mixed in, then wash the top layer away so you see the stones. It's naturally slip-resistant and has texture that hides dirt. Looks way more interesting than smooth concrete.

What Actually Matters (Besides Looking Good)

Size - Don't cheap out on size. A tiny patio looks stupid and you can't do anything on it. Think about what you actually want to do out there. Dining table for six? Lounge chairs? Fire pit? Add it all up and make sure you have room.

Location - The obvious spot isn't always the right spot. Sun, shade, privacy, how you get to it from the house - all that matters. We've moved patios twenty feet and completely changed how people use them.

Not Screwing Up Your Yard - Your patio should look like it belongs with your house and landscaping. We're not just dropping a concrete slab in your backyard and calling it good.

Planning for Later - Want to add an outdoor kitchen someday? Fire pit? Pergola? Better to plan for that stuff now than tear up your new patio later.

The Boring Stuff That Keeps It From Falling Apart

Base Work - This is the part nobody sees but everybody regrets if it's done wrong. We dig out the right depth, put in the right base materials, and compact everything properly. Screw this up and your patio will crack, settle, or both.

Drainage - Water sitting on or under your patio will ruin it. We slope everything so water goes where it's supposed to go - away from your house and not creating swamps in your yard.

Reinforcement - Depending on what you're doing, we add rebar or mesh to prevent cracking. It's not always necessary, but when it is, it's the difference between a patio that lasts and one that doesn't.

How This Actually Works

We Talk First - Before we measure anything, we want to know how you plan to use this thing. Big parties? Quiet mornings with coffee? Kids playing? The answers affect everything we do.

We Look at Your Yard - Drainage, sun, existing landscaping, how it connects to your house. Sometimes what seems obvious isn't actually the best choice.

We Show You Stuff - Samples of different finishes, colors, patterns. We explain what costs what and why. No pressure to buy the most expensive option.

We Do the Work - Dig, prep, pour, finish. We protect your plants and clean up every day. The actual concrete part happens pretty fast, but it needs time to cure properly.

We Make Sure You Know How to Take Care of It - Simple maintenance stuff so your patio keeps looking good for years.

Working in Beverly Hills

Your neighbors are going to see this thing every day. Your property value matters. The standards are different here than working in, say, Van Nuys.

We know how to work around your $30,000 landscaping without killing it. We understand that your patio needs to look like it costs what you paid for it. We get that "good enough" isn't good enough in this neighborhood.

We also know how to work with existing pools, outdoor kitchens, and whatever else you've got going on back there.

What People Always Ask

"What's this going to cost me?" Depends on size, what finish you want, and what kind of prep work your yard needs. Basic concrete is cheapest, stamped and colored costs more. We'll give you options so you can decide what makes sense.

"How long before I can use it?" You can walk on it in a day or two, but we recommend waiting longer before you start dragging furniture around on it. Concrete keeps getting stronger for weeks.

"Is it going to crack?" Yeah, probably. Concrete cracks. That's what it does. Good base work and control joints minimize the damage, but small cracks are normal and usually not a problem.

"Can I add stuff later?" Most things can be added later, but it's easier and cheaper if we plan for it upfront. Fire pits, outdoor kitchens, shade structures - tell us what you're thinking about.

Should You Do This?

Makes sense if you actually want to use your backyard, you want something that'll last, and you don't want to spend every weekend maintaining it.

Doesn't make sense if you're selling the house next year, you need something temporary, or you absolutely have to have real stone no matter what it costs.

Best way to decide is to look at some examples and understand what's involved. We can show you different options and explain what would work for your specific situation.
